Lochie's Channel Swim 2012

“My name is Lachlan Hinds but I prefer Lochie. I’m 16 and I’m going to do one of the hardest swims in the world.

The English Channel.

People ask why I would think of swimming the English Channel and my only answer is because it’s my dream. I want to become the youngest Australian male to ever complete the Channel.  I am an ordinary Aussie boy with one goal. To be the best I can be.

When I decided I was going to attempt the Channel I wanted to support a charity so my swim was not only for personal gain but to do good for a greater cause. 

I chose the Westpac Life Saver because I believe we share the same values and goals. The Westpac Life Saver watches over my fellow ocean swimmers and me every time we are in the ocean.  I see the helicopter above and I know I’m well looked after.

I was hooked on ocean swimming after winning the Cole Classic at the age of 9. I am an active Surf Lifesaver at Bondi Surf Club and in 2011 at the age of 15 I received my Bronze Medallion.

I swim with Aquabliss Performance at Loreto Normanhurst and last season I competed for Bondi Bathers Surf Lifesaving Club as part of the emerging athlete program.

I attend St Leo's Catholic College at Wahroonga, play the trumpet at level 4, love going to the movies and listening to music. Although my favourite pastime is eating and sleeping.

I have set a fundraising target of $10,000 which all goes to the Westpac Life Saver. But I would love to raise more if possible.
