Since 1973, the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter has been saving lives and delivering a vital community service. The Service is a not-for-profit operation with no direct government funding and therefore depends on the generous support of sponsors and the community to ensure we remain a vital part of emergency rescue on the Central Coast, Sydney and southern NSW areas.

The Westpac Life Savers are sophisticated rescue helicopters equipped to conduct air rescue operations. They require constant maintenance and need the latest equipment and technology to ensure crew and pilots perform at their best. Engines require a major overhaul at least every 4500 hours. In December 2010 a dedicated team of engineers commenced project ‘VH-SLA Rebuild’. The objective was to strip the aircraft to its bare structure, repair extensive corrosion caused by the sea air at the La Perouse base and install state of the art search and rescue technology. The aircraft had not been upgraded to this extent since 1994 and took nine months to complete and approximately $800,000. The aircraft must be maintained to the highest standards at all times to ensure a reliable and safe emergency service.

There are many ways that individuals, groups, sporting and service clubs, organisations, businesses and schools can support the Westpac Life Saver. Either through a personal donation, buying merchandise as a gift for someone or yourself or visiting one of the weekly Cash Housie/Club Bingo sessions.

Every dollar is greatly appreciated, so thank you for considering the Westpac Life Saver as the recipient of your generosity.

Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
