Lochie and his family came to us recently and told us of his plans to cross the Channel and by doing so he would achieve two big goals:

  1. become the youngest  Australian male to swim the English Channel; and
  2. to raise money for his favourite charity – the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.

This young man didn’t take long to make an impression.  His amazing aspirations are hidden by his modesty.   Lochie is genuine in his quest and he want to help us – and we want to help him!

We have no doubt that Lochie will impress you.  He is a very intelligent teenager, an incredible athlete with loads of ambition, but very sincere and modest.   He is keen to make a difference.

Lochie Hinds is a normal teenager who has had a passion for swimming since he was three.  As a Nipper at five, he found it very frustrating not being able to swim as far as the big kids.

He swims with Aquabliss Performance at Loreto Normanhurst under Brett Winkworth, and last season he competed for Bondi Bathers Surf Lifesaving Club as part of their emerging athlete program under Steve De Lorenzo.

He won his first ocean swim, the Cole Classic, at the age of 9.  From here he was hooked.

Lochie is an active Surf Lifesaver and in 2011 at the age of 15, he received his Bronze Medallion.

When he is not swimming he loves going to the movies and listening to music.  Although his favourite past time is eating and sleeping.

Lochie is now also becoming known for his running ability, coming second in the under 19 category in the Bondi Bare Foot soft sand race.  He recently completed The 2011 Sun-Herald City2Surf in just over 60 mins.

Lochie is an easy going kid, who loves to swim, compete and challenge himself.

We are very pleased to be able to support Lochie Hinds in his efforts to swim the English Channel.
