Kayaker in distress, Cronulla
11 January 2012
At 1710 hours, Lifesaver 1 was tasked by Australian search and Rescue (AusSAR) in Canberra after they detected an activated distress beacon in the Bate Bay (Cronulla) area. Following a short search, the Westpac Life Saver located a 44 year old male nearly 2 kms offshore, in the water clinging to his kayak. He was winched aboard and flown back to our Sydney base for further assessment. He's well, thanks to his EPIRB!
