The Funding Challange
For more than 35 years, the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter has been saving lives and delivering a vital community service.
The Service however is a not-for-profit operation with no govenment funding and therefore depends entirely on sponsorships, donations and fundraising to remain flying.
There are many large financial costs involved in keeping the Service up and running.
- $3,850 for an average hour mission
- $10,000 to train a new crew member
- $3,500 for a flight helmet
- $160,000 for a new winch
- $5,000 to replace the winch cable
- $384, 000 for a set of 4 main rotor blades
- $5,000 for a 50-hour service and up to $25,000 for a 300-hour service
- $60,000 for a winch overhaul
- $250,000 for a main transmission
The Service has been privileged to have Westpac as the naming rights sponsor since its inception, however, these funds only provide some of the operational costs.
All other funds to keep the helicopter flying are required through fundraising and donations.
We need your help!
There are many ways that individuals, groups, sporting and service clubs, organisations, businesses and schools can support the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter to keep it flying.
